The Bible I Carry Every Day as a Pastor May Surprise You
What Bible do I carry with me every day? The answer may surprise you.
The last time I made an everyday carry video, I was shocked by how many people were interested in what I carry with me every day as a pastor. But there was one question a lot of people threw at me, almost like an accusation: No Bible?
“Great stuff. Not sure if I missed it, but do you carry a physical Bible?”
“Where is your Bible?”
“I would find a Bible pretty handy for a pastor… I’m just sayin.”
“No Bible? No Physical Bible?”
“Brother, I loved the EDC, but I was really surprised to not see a Bible. I assume you have Logos on your Mac, YouVersion on your phone, and a Bible on your Kindle, but no hard copy? What??”
Fair question. After all, what kind of pastor doesn’t carry a Bible?
So, let’s talk about that.
I love the Bible
First, let me make one thing clear: I love the Bible.
I have lots of them. You can see just a few of them in the video above. And that’s not even all of them. I’ve got an absurd number of Bibles on my shelves because I genuinely love God’s Word.
But the truth is… I don’t always carry a physical Bible with me everywhere I go.
My Everyday Carry Bible
So what Bible do I carry with me every day? My phone (gasp).
I know, it sounds crazy. But my phone is my everyday carry Bible. Wherever I go, my phone goes with me. And on it, I’ve always got access to the Logos Bible app.
It’s the best. There is no other Bible app as powerful.
But it almost seems like there is this idea that I am not as spiritual because I read my Bible on a glass screen rather than printed paper.
I could carry a leather-bound Bible, and sometimes I do. I have one I carry for hospital visits and other occasions. And I always preach from a physical Bible because there’s more meaning and gravitas to preaching from and holding up a Bible instead of an iPad. But that’s just my preference, and if you want to preach from an iPad, go for it (I did for years).
But when it comes to the Bible that I always carry to read, study, and mark up every single day, it’s Logos.
Some people might argue, “That’s not a Bible.”
Yes, it is.
And it’s many other things as well. But it’s the same inspired, inerrant Word of God, only in a digital form.
Please, show me a verse that says you must read the Bible on printed paper and not on a glass screen?
Regardless of the medium, I’m going to keep reading and studying the Bible.
You don’t have to agree with me. You can use whatever Bible you want. My prayer is that whatever Bible you use, you revere and love it as much or more than I do.
Why I Use Logos Every Day
Over the years, I’ve used just about every Bible app out there. And I can honestly say that nothing compares to Logos. It’s not just a Bible reader—it’s a full study suite in your pocket.
Here’s what I love about it:
- Instant access to thousands of resources – commentaries, study Bibles, theological works, and more.
- Greek and Hebrew tools – great for sermon prep or personal study.
- Highlighting, note-taking, and reading plans – so I can stay consistent in daily reading.
- AI Search – this new feature is incredible. Unlike normal keyword searches, it understands context. For example, when I searched for verses about speaking and listening, Logos found not just verses with those exact words, but also related passages like Proverbs 18:13. It’s like having a research assistant who understands context.
I use Logos for sermon prep, Bible reading, and deep study. It’s powerful, fast, and always with me.
My Physical Bibles
Just because I use Logos doesn’t mean I’ve abandoned printed Bibles. I still use them all the time.
- For hospital visits: I carry my ESV Thinline Bible in buffalo leather. It’s lightweight, durable, and perfect for reading with someone in a room.
- For preaching: I use the ESV Preaching Bible. It’s big, thick, and beautiful—with large font and a single-column layout that looks great in the pulpit.
- For studying at home: I have an ESV Legacy Bible that’s always there for me. It’s a lot like the preaching Bible with a few differences.
- For nostalgia: I still have my old NIV Life Application Study Bible from and my first pocket NIV that got me through Bible college (watch the video above to see them all).
Obviously, the translation I lean on most these days is the ESV. It’s faithful to the original languages, beautifully written, and follows in the King James tradition.
But there’s no perfect translation. Most of the English translations today are excellent.
The Logos Pro Preacher Bundle
Now, I have some really exciting news: Logos reached out to me and asked if I’d like to create a Pro Preacher Logos Bundle featuring some of my favorite resources. Of course I said, “Yes!”
In the bundle, you’ll get my favorite:
- BIBLES: ESV, CSB, NIV, KJV, NLT, and more.
- STUDY BIBLES: CSB Study Bible, Faithlife Study Bible, and the Reformation Study Bible.
- MY PREACHING BOOKS: Preaching Nuts & Bolts and Preach and Deliver. I’m honored to have my books now in the Logos library!
- COMMENTARIES: ESV Expository Commentary (great for expository preaching), Pillar New Testament Commentaries, and the Tyndale Old & New Testament series.
- You also get a preaching course, pastoral counseling tools, Schaff’s 8-volume History of the Christian Church, and so much more.
If you bought all these separately, it would cost thousands of dollars. But the bundle gives you a huge library at a fraction of the price. It is perfect for pastors or preachers building their digital toolbox.
Yes, there is a subscription to use Logos. Yes, it is worth it. And yes, if you don’t want a subscription to get all the latest features and updates, you can still use Logos for FREE. So the books are resources are still yours forever.
The Bottom Line
At the end of the day, it’s not about whether your Bible is printed on paper or displayed on a screen.
What matters is that you read it, love it, and live it.
If you prefer a leather-bound Bible, awesome. But if you really want to be “authentic” and the most spiritual maybe you should grab some papyrus scrolls like Jesus used.
But for me, the Bible I always have with me that I read, study, and rely on every day is Logos.

Bible on your phone? Of course, welcome to the 21st Century. Use it lots!
For Hospital visits or situations with older adults, I will use my physical Bible because I feel it gives a greater sense of security and authority to people who have matured with the printed page. But by all means, use your phone for Godly purposes! It may be just the example a “techie” might need to see.
People can be a bit legalistic. I have several Bibles, paper and Logos, however I favor studying out of paper. Logos is good for on the go!!
