Hey, I’m Brandon.
I’m a writer, pastor, the founder of ProPreacher.com, and author of Preaching Nuts & Bolts and Preach and Deliver.
I’ve had the privilege of serving as a pastor for ten years in churches of all different sizes, and my work has been featured on Pastors.com, LifeWay.com, ChurchLeaders.com, OutreachMagazine.com, and many other sites.
My wife, Taryn, and I live outside of Phoenix, Arizona with our daughter, Ashlyn, and son, Jaxon.
I love coffee in my cup, books on my phone, and the Green Bay Packers on my TV. But mostly, I love adventures with my family and helping people grow in their walk with Jesus.
And if you want to see my credentials, I’ve got a master’s in Biblical and Theological Studies from Phoenix Seminary, and a bachelor’s in Christian Studies from Grand Canyon University.
My Story
In 2012, I had everything I’d ever wanted, but I was miserable.
I was working at my dream job in one of the largest and fastest growing churches in America. I had a beautiful wife, a spunky daughter, a loyal dog, a new house, and another kid on the way.
On the outside, I was successful. On the inside, my soul was empty. I was tired and burnt out. Something was missing. I was pursuing ministry success at the expense of my relationship with God.
After months of wrestling with God about what we felt he was calling us to do, my wife and I did something crazy. We quit our jobs and moved back home to Arizona. I found a job at a smaller church, enrolled in seminary, and began to write on the side.
I started this blog (BrandonHilgemann.com) first but put it on hold to ride another wave of “success.”
One night, I hit publish on a new website that I called ProPreacher.com because I wanted to write about what I was learning on my path to become a better preacher. I didn’t share it with anyone, because I didn’t really expect anyone to read it. This was a passion project for me. But God was working behind the scenes. In the first year, thousands of people began to read my work.
Over the years, ProPreacher.com has continued to grow to tens of thousands of readers every month. It’s been an incredible ride, and I continue to work there to help pastors preach better.
However, my life is about more than just preaching. After six years of collecting dust, I’ve decided to resurrect this blog to continue sharing what God is teaching me about faith, life, and work.
So if you want to know more about preaching, check out my other site. But if you want help living a better, more meaningful life—the life God created you for. Then, you’re invited to join me on this new adventure.
These are my unfiltered thoughts on faith, life, and work.
